Our Story

JLS Design + Build is a family-owned business in Southwest Minneapolis. JLS Design + Build was established in 2008 to provide clients with residential remodeling and custom homes. In 2011, we added divisions to address the demand for specialty-use commercial and build management. In 2022, JLS Design + Build launched the investment side of the company - JLS Team Holdings.

From there our companies' mission statement was born: strive for the triple win, improve the neighborhood, provide unique and sustainable projects to Minneapolis, and create an investment vehicle that is positioned for long-term growth.

Over the years we have evolved into one of the most focused and specialized design-builders in the Twin Cities. We continue to evolve with construction and client trends. We commit to stay vigilant to who we are and where our expertise lies.

Our passion is to discover underperforming assets and bring them into our process to achieve a beneficial outcome. This is possible through our research and expertise in analytics, investments, client needs, design, approvals, and build. We also bring a skill and strategy of attracting private lending and investment. These partnerships provide our team and projects with strategic capital as well as expertise.

As a builder, we could look back over the past 17-years and tell our story through the lens of dozens of projects. But that would not capture our past or future narrative. Our story is one of creativity, transformation, growth of assets - and most of all relationships.

Our Founder

Joshua Segal, the Founder & Principal of JLS Design + Build, is an entrepreneur with a passion for real estate development and construction. With over 17 years of experience in the industry, Joshua has led JLS to become a leader in the Minneapolis / Lakes Area market.

Driven by his 'DESIGN. BUILD. MANAGE.' philosophy, Joshua has transformed under-performing real estate into thriving properties. His focus is on urban infill development in high-demand locations. The result is the creation of boutique multifamily residences that meet the market demand for housing.

As a transparent leader, Joshua values problem-solving and collaboration. He believes in the company's mission statement to always strive for the triple win: help improve the neighborhood that he also lives in; provide unique and sustainable projects to Minneapolis neighbors; and create an investment vehicle that is positioned for long-term growth performance.

JLS Development

JLS has been in business since 2008. The focus of JLS Development is urban infill real estate development in high demand locations, such as the Minneapolis lake neighborhoods. With an ‘owner mentality’ JLS takes ill-performing real estate and advances to highest and best use through design, planning, city approvals and financing.

JLS works with architects, engineers, city planners, neighborhood associations and legal to seek conforming projects with large value add components. The majority of projects are teardown rebuilds into brand new construction with a core focus of boutique multifamily. JLS is responsible for putting all the pieces of the project together from conception to stabilization.

JLS also facilitates owner representation for any or all stages of development for city, neighborhood, and basic project services. JLS looks to create a triple win in respect to improving the neighborhood, appeasing the city planning objectives and creating highly in-demand market need for housing. Reimagine Southwest

ReImagine is a design, build and construction management company. The commercial side started in 2011 building out fitness, beauty, fashion businesses and small stores. While the residential side started in 2014, with a focus on building custom residential homes, multi-family residential and small commercial construction. The main focus is general contracting and construction management.

Additional core pillars have included trade labor, such as framing carpentry (our secret sauce), siding, trimming, flooring, and painting. As well as additional trade services like, site work, hardscaping, landscaping, and material handling.

ReImagine is investment minded with large controls on price, service, and quality. With a deep focus on design build, value engineering and decision making in respect to replacement cost and growing a larger balance sheet for us and/or our partners. Core values consist of transparency, trust, and alignment.
